InfoAge Science and History Museums
2201 Marconi Road, Wall, NJ 07719
(732) 280-3000
The Information Age Learning Center is a consortium of science and history museums and exhibits that serve as the focal point for the preservation and interpretation of New Jersey’s rich communications, computer, and electronic technology and history. Visitors are educated in the technologies we use today, many of which were developed at Camp Evans. The Camp Evans site was originally selected in 1912 by Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian immigrant, as the east coast base of trans-Atlantic wireless communication. The Federal government seized the property a few years later when it realized its strategic importance for WWI communications. The property ultimately became the military Camp Evans, where many innovations evolved, including early radar systems, cold war technology and nuclear weapons development. Research at the site was cutting-edge and drew a diverse group of scientists and engineers, including African Americans and women, to work on the emerging technologies.
Today, the site boasts over two dozen museums and exhibits, including a radio museum established by renowned radio and telecommunications historians; a computer learning center museum established by computer industry professionals and hobbyists; NJ shipwreck museum established by a prominent diver and explorer; a model train museum; and an electronics Computer Deconstruction Lab for learning electronics and computer technology. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
