7 REASONS THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE CAPE MAY FOR THE HOLIDAYS December 09, 2024

Deck the halls with boughs of holly and history! Cape May is the place to be this holiday season. Here are seven reasons why There is No Place Like Cape May for the Holidays:

1. The history! Cape May is the oldest seaside resort in the country!  In the mid-18th century, the city began hosting vacationers from Philadelphia who sought a healthy and pleasurable getaway. Continue the tradition of sojourning down the shore by visiting Cape May this holiday season!

2. The architecture! Cape May was designated a National Historic Landmark—the nation’s highest preservation honor-- for the density of its Victorian Architecture. The architecture is so picturesque you may even begin to believe you are in Dickens’ Village! So, this holiday season, enjoy the twinkling lights along the grandiose porches, the bundles of holly mounted on heavy wooden doors, and the countless other decorations that will take you back in time and bring out your holiday spirit. Maybe you’ll spot some gingerbread trim along the way!

3. The community events! From the Christmas parade to (three!) tree lighting ceremonies, Cape May has fun for the whole family! Want to hear music that sleighs? Attend one of the many choral or band events! Spooky season too short for you? Consider a Victorian holiday ghost tale trolley ride! Have an ugly sweater in the back of your closet? Join the Ugly Sweater Party! Cape May has numerous events throughout the holiday season that would even bring joy to Scrooge himself!

4. The shopping! If you want to get a partner, family, or friend the perfect gift this holiday season, Cape May has an abundance of shops with bountiful gifts for everyone! Shop small along the Washington Street Mall that is lined with lights and holiday cheer. Visit Congress Hall to see the lawn transformed into a Winter Wonderland outdoor shopping village. Be on the look out for Customer Appreciation Days for specials and discounts at some of your favorite local businesses!  You may even find a deal on that Leg Lamp you have always dreamed of!

5. The food! Eat brunch with Santa, delight in a performance of the Nutcracker while at a tea party, or sip on some local wine while you shop small. Cape May has plenty of food and fun for the whole family! If you need a bite to eat after shopping, you can also check out the numerous restaurants throughout the community for everything from steaming hot coffee to pizza and fine dining. There are plenty of options for every budget and taste bud in Cape May. Keep an eye out for a prized turkey!

6. The beaches! Yes, even in the winter, the Cape May beaches can be a magical getaway. Enjoy some relaxation and reflection time away from all the holiday hustle and bustle while you feel the sand between your toes. This may also be a perfect time to try that sand angel you always thought about!

7. The historic sites! Need a break from shopping? Visit Cape May’s historic sites! Enjoy the special holiday candlelight tours offered by the Emlen Physick Estate. Burn off some of those holiday pounds we all put on by climbing the Cape May Lighthouse. Be on the lookout for old Saint Nick from the observation deck of the World War II Lookout Tower! There are plenty of historic sites open to visitors this holiday season!
